i'm gonna play the skeptic today on a topic that is painful for a lot of people on this forum.

my intent is not to stir anything up but to make sure facts are confirmed.

bear in mind, i'm sickened by the wt's role (and the heirarchy down to elders) in child molestation cover-ups.

Believe me, I get that skepticism is a good thing. I'm reminded of a quote from Richard Dawkins:

"It's worth recalling that Doubting Thomas, the Parton Saint of Scientists, was criticized for demanding evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. The other disciples were explicitly praised for accepting an alleged fact on faith in the absence of evidence."

I have also used hyperbole here. I was only commenting on the perception I had that the case itself was being questioned. It has been demonstrated to my satisfaction that a case was filed and prosecuted. Apologies if it seemed I was too broad in my condemnation of other commenters. Skepticism is always justified, but let's not make any unwarranted leaps.

I paid attention to this case, as much as was possible from Canada. I saw the Latrobe Valley court record indicating the charges were legitimately filed. There was even a letter from the court indicating, as others have mentioned, Mr. Unthank's tendency toward hyperbole, but acknowledging that the wording was still acceptible. If Mr. Unthank has any negative issue in this matter, it is to heighten the drama in order to focus more attention on the matter. It must have been a powerful motivation, considering most news outlets ignored hte story, and even some in the Ex-JW community were giving him a hard time over it.

Listen to yourselves! Goddammit, are you questioning whether this case was even legitimate? Sometimes I feel that the ex-JW community are worse than the damned JWs, nitpicking each other to death over trivialities! This is like chickens pecking that one chicken to death because of a feather out of place!

i resent the suggestion that enforcing a law that is designed to protect children is "not in the public interest".

Unfortunately Mr. Unthank was unsucessful. The Crown took over the cases today and dismissed them.

although many ex-jehovah's witnesses know about the watchtower's secret 10 year affair with the united nations, the vast majority of jehovah's witnesses do not know.

on sunday september 11, 2011, we plan to let them know about it!

there was never a formal disclosure to jehovah's witnesses at meetings or in wt literature or letters telling the jw's about the affair.

I don't think there will be legal ramifications, but I can't be sure. It is known that JWs invite all to attend their meetings, so there may be room for a conflict in that. At any rate, the worst that could come of it is a misdemeanor, which is something I'm more than willing to face. It is my understanding that the vehicles themselves are private property, in addition to the KH property. Again, I don't see charges of any kind being pressed, and it would probably be a simple matter to persuade the police or court of the benign intentions of the campaign.

Again, there is no intention to gain news reports on the campaign. It is solely designed to put the truth about the UN/WT link in the faces of the JWs. Initially it was going to be a silent campaign so that there would be no possibility of the targets being alerted, but it was decided that in the interest of increasing the number of participants it would be better to publicise it to all XJWs who could participate.

It is up to every participant to decide whether they wish to risk misdemeanor charges by placing the flyers. Personally, I will be participating despite that small risk and will take whatever penalties are meted out. There will be no indication on the flyers themselves who placed them, nor will there be any contact info whatsoever. It will only be a printout of the Guardian article of 2001.

The goal is not to attract media attention, although that will be a nice bonus. The goal is to inform current JWs that their organization was in bed with the 'disgusting thing', no more, no less.
